Nuix has hired a SVP for Cyber Threat Analysis to head up their 'growing cybersecurity team'. Now that Nuix has expanded their product scope to address the key requirements for corporate customers, this move indicates that they are looking at the security market traditionally dominated by Symantec, McAfee, Guidance and Access Data. Expansion into new markets takes resources and entails certain risks, but eDJ Group can see a forming long term play in this move.

As further proof that Nuix's partner channel has gained momentum, eDJ recently learned that for some time FTI has been recommending/reselling Nuix eDiscovery instead of their own legacy processing software for Ringtail customers. This kind of partnership can be a short term win-win strategy, though we would expect an integrated platform approach to dominate the corporate market eventually.

Appointment of Deborah Baron as Chief Marketing Officer demonstrates that Nuix is a real player in the U.S. eDiscovery market and their intentions to move into the larger Information Governance market. Her rich background with Zantaz and HP/Autonomy should bring a mature go-to-market strategy to this growing product line.

Our contacts who are Nuix “super-users” tell us that Nuix is strong when it comes to ingesting large amounts of data and with out demanding a huge hardware investment. We believe Nuix will continue to improve offering and gain market share, capitalizing on its momentum, especially in North America. The company’s message around information governance is resonating, but Nuix will have to be careful as it begins to take on larger, more entrenched competitors. In eDJ’s opinion, Nuix will also have start building in policy and retention management capabilities; perhaps the recent partnership with RSD can help fill that gap, at least in the short-term.
