Not developing custom software for licensing, which is difficult for a services firm to effectively do. Instead, focused on the services that can be added to technology. They use leading tools and provide services around them. They do integration services and will extend functionality. Have a predictive analytics framework that they can implement around hosted review tool (like Relativity, their main review platform). Deloitte is laser focused on being a leading eDiscovery services provider and partnering with leading technologies and then extending those technologies via services. This should give Deloitte and advantage over service providers that are also trying to develop and sell proprietary software.

eDJ has had several informal discussions with members of the Deloitte team over the course of the past few weeks. eDJ is in the process of scheduling a formal briefing in the near future, but here are some general observations based on recent conversations. Deloitte has come a long way from the challenges it faced several years ago when they tried to integrate Autonomy (prior to the HP acquisition). They hired an experienced large scale eDiscovery operations leader to run their Nashville data center and the general feedback from the clients (which includes the Deloitte consultants in the field) has been positive. Deloitte recently achieved Orange level best in service status with Relativity which is not an easy task.

Deloitte bought ieDiscovery this year to offer expanded solutions to their federal government clients. The move is further confirmation that Deloitte is committed to eDiscovery. The operations team for Deloitte seems to have done a good job of turning around the issues it faced years ago in their Nashville facility. eDJ does not get regular briefings from Deloitte, but hopes to as we expand coverage of the service provider market. We will be watching to see what kind of technology partnerships the company makes and to see if more acquisitions are coming.
